Case Study 1:
Asset Management
Transformation Program

Business Objective: Investment Management client were embarking upon a major change program to deliver significant benefits through the Front, Middle and Back Office. The scope of the change encompasses Fund Accounting, Trading, Enterprise Data Management, Investment Risk and Performance. Major systems in scope – Simcorp Dimension, Charles River, Calypso, Eagle PACE, Askari, Optura and Sylvan

  • The approach is one of an iterative Proof-of-Concept (POC) delivery, each phase being progressively built on the previous one.
  • Create and execute test strategies and plan aligning with the Program strategy with challenges listed below:
    • Changing user requirements/Scope.
    • Lack/non availability of the information/documents required for testing activities
    • Limited testing resources, Non availability on SME’s.
    • Lack of standardized processes, Non availability of test environments.
    • More than 200 Applications ( core, non core, in house applications)

  • Vertiscript provided test Strategy for planning, execution, monitoring and control of the testing activities required for successful end to end integration and implementation of core (Eagle, Simcorp (SCD), Charles River, Calypso) and non-core applications
  • Test Assessment was conducted , which resulted in implementing best practices for testing and introduced standard procedures/ documentation such as test strategy, test plan, test scenario, data etc.
  • Created and validated tests to execute Trading workflows( Equity, Fixed Income, Futures, Options, Derivatives), Individual applications requirements, Interfaces between systems, schedules and batch processing

  • Vertiscript understood all core applications and integration data flow architecture and came up with test strategy for successful implementation
  • Created and executing Run book for all instrument types using all interfaces developed to get market data into source systems and transfer data between systems.
  • With prior expertise on testing Market data and core applications, provided suggestions on design of interfaces built around applications.
  • Defined a regression and automation approach for all applications
  • With the help of proper test documentation and defect prevention activities, the testing time has been reduced considerably
  • The metrics and different test templates prepared by vertiscript helped client to streamline and optimize the test operations.

Case Study 2: EDM
Test Management
Services

  • Client Name: Investment Management Client
  • Client Brief: leading provider of investment management services for British Columbia’s public sector and one of the largest asset managers in Canada

  • Higher Quality Cost due to defects/changes in later part of projects
  • Vast data collection from heterogeneous sources makes them incongruous for business need
  • Lack of one-stop automation tool for DEV and QA teams to cover Unit and System Testing
  • Every incremental change to the system increases the scope for regression and these manual tests have to be repeated every time

Requirement Analysis Phase:

  • Identified requirement gaps
  • Identified & recommended types of testing to be done
  • Prepare requirement traceability report
  • Automation feasibility analysis

Test Planning Phase:

  • Proven test approach with 0% slippage in time, cost and quality with established test estimation process
  • Recognized QA processes eradicates misunderstanding between teams and attains timely response

Test Execution Phase:

  • Complete web based automated solution with a built in ability to audit, validate and reconcile test results
  • Continuous Delivery - Round the clock testing support
  • Business & Technical Knowledge of vertiscript resources ensures 0% defect leakage to production

  • Ready to use test automation scripts which will help to find the defects early.
  • Highly improved data quality
  • 100% Test coverage ensures confidence in data
  • 100% reusability of test plans through automation tool across all portfolios thus increasing the regression test coverage by 100% with remote scheduling of job executions
  • Easy maintenance of SQL scripts and related deliverables
  • 0% time, cost and defect slippage
  • Increased business reliability on data that are being reported

Case Study 3: Test
Data
Management

  • Client Name: Investment Management Client
  • Client Brief: leading provider of investment management services for British Columbia’s public sector and one of the largest asset managers in Canada

    • There was a lack of production like data in DEV and TEST Environments for testing all the business scenarios and this was leading to compromised test coverage
    • As the data grows, it demands more space to store full size production data leading to increased operational cost.
    • Copying the data without compromising on security and privacy to non-production environment is a big challenge
    • More time is spent by QA & DEV team on test data preparation impacting release cycles.

    Strategy Phase:

    • Consulted the client and analyzed the test data requirements and provided recommendations.

    Architecture & Design:

    • Analyzed the existing systems to understand the table relationships
    • Identified the two driving tables and subset criteria ( based on 2 months data)
    • Designed 20 masking rules to mask the secured columns.

    Implementation:

    • Imported all the driving tables into ILM workbench.
    • Logically related the tables based on the requirements.
    • Created 97 and 44 tables entity for both the identified subject respectively and moved the data into TEST Env. based on 2 months data as subset criteria.
    • Masked all the secured columns with associated masking rules
    • Ran the ETL code on top of the subset data created in TEST Environment and identified valid defects.

    Technology Stack:

    • Informatica ILM Tool and its subset and masking capabilities were used for this solution.

    • Ready-to-use test data helped in bringing down the deployment time taken by Dev team (approx. 4 cycles down)
    • Enabled defect detection in early stages of life cycle due to the qualified test data
    • TDM best practices helped in creating Realistic, referential intact and secure test data without impacting the business information.
    • Improved test coverage with valid business scenarios data
